Another Bulgarian team took a part in the CW edition of CQ WW contest 2012, by participating from Asiatic Turkey. There were 8 operators and 1 technical support person from Bulgaria and 2 local ham-representatives. We traveled with two cars and one van. Finally, on Tuesday evening we reached our destination – Cinarcik county. The plan that was preliminary drawn was killed just in its beginning. The present location was perfect, except only one enough important detail – the mobile network … totally misses … no internet access at all. So, we decide not to give up and to keep searching for a solution till the contest begins. Almost 24 hrs later a small house in lonely village belongs to the same municipality was rented. The population of the village is very few and our presence there was really event. Unfortunately we were already out of our setup schedule. No chance - we had to mount up all the aerials on Thursday and Friday. Like the song text – “It’s a dirty job but someone got to do it!”. During those days the rain never stopped and the work in a mud environment was a real challenge. Anyway one by one all the antennas were mushrooming around the house and most important – with perfect appearance, unbelievable. In parallel our technical guru Vesko, LZ5VK did the internal reorganization of the house – from living room to a shack with 6 radios, 3 amplifiers, aerial and BPF switches and all rest cabling and wiring that wireless communication needs. On Friday evening seems all was at his place, the software was also checked – alive and kicking … So we have had our gala dinner and short sleep before the start.
The beginning was furious. 160m band was opened as 20m band is. The productivity rate on this work place was better than the other worked on 80m band. After 5 hrs of work we achieved 600 QSO’s on 160m band within 12 CQ zones and 60 DXCC as well. Actually during the first day the rates on all bands were extremely high. The sunset passed and all high bands dropped down – just like shut-down. Same story on Sunday – after the sunset – just silence on high bands. In result of all this we did almost 2000 QSO’s with Asian stations but only 800 with North America. Actually we did more contacts with NA on 80m band than on 20m. In result of all this propagation phenomena’s we did about1000 QSO’s and 7,000,000 points less than the score we claimed after the edition 2011.
On Monday morning all equipment was unfitted and back into the trunks – looking forward to the long way back home.
